In his first album Mercan Dede taking us to a travel in the land of Sufism. Mercan Dede, did not only use the background and rhythm from Sufi Music but also the teachings. Especially the song "Mevlana Celaleddin Rumi", named after the famous Turkish/Persian Sufi Master from 13th century, is a masterpiece. Without using words, Mercan Dede manages to show that life is a circle. "Walking on the Red Sea", is a good example of how he is succesfully mixing Sufi beats with electronic backgrounds which helps this album become universal and reach audiences far beyond many other ethnic - fusion albums would do. |
